Wine Guide
Mike came to wine country by following his heart — and it's a decision he's never once questioned. Before that, he spent 8 fast-paced years in Silicon Valley, immersed in technology marketing and communications, where he first started paying close attention to what makes a story worth telling.
That instinct is what led him into hospitality, starting on the floor at Franciscan Estates, where he fell in love with the ritual of pouring wine and sharing it with strangers who quickly stopped feeling like strangers. From there, he joined Balzac Communications & Marketing — eventually leading the agency as President — helping wineries and beverage brands find and tell their own stories.
Along the way, Mike deepened his own wine education, earning his WSET Level 4 Diploma and the Certified Wine Educator designation, and spending years teaching others how to taste, understand, and fall in love with wine the way he has. Over that time, he's evaluated thousands of wines from all over the world, and he's convinced Sonoma makes some of the very best — which is part of why he's made his home here, deeply in love with this land and everything it produces.
Now at Sojourn Cellars, Mike has come full circle, back to the tasting room where his wine journey began. A self-proclaimed disciple of Walt Disney, Mike thinks the best experiences are the ones that feel a little magical — and he brings that same warmth, curiosity, and hard-earned expertise to every pour, whether he's geeking out over a barrel sample or welcoming a first-time visitor to the world of wine.
