Description

This is our inaugural vintage of this highly coveted wine from famed Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard. Tucked into the western benchlands of Oakville, the Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper vineyard is a cornerstone of Napa Valley history. First owned by George C. Yount, the property was acquired by Charles Hopper in 1877 as a gift for his daughter, Missouri. Highly aromatic, this Cabernet Sauvignon opens with a vibrant core of black currant, black cherry, and wild red berries. As it breathes, a sophisticated second act reveals layers of fresh lavender and violet, underpinned by noble notes of cedar, cocoa nibs, and a savory graphite-tobacco finish. The palate is expansive and concentrated, balancing a powerful, firm backbone with effortless elegance. It is a masterpiece of concentration and grace. Winemaker Erich Bradley considers this the finest Cabernet fruit of his career. With a mere 100 cases produced, this wine is strictly allocated to our members.

The 2023 Sojourn ‘Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a massive and decadent bottling that is drinking marvelously in its heady youth. Once on the nose this shows off creme de cassis and loganberry preserves alongside graphite, tar and loamy soils. The palate is viscous and rich with great length and bright underlying acidity. Fresh and inviting from this slightly cooler vintage, with amazing flavor density, enjoy now and over the next twenty years to come.

Big, but focused and detailed, the nose of this Cabernet reveals aromas of black plum, currant, graphite, cocoa, and orange zest. The full-throttle palate displays loads of polished tannin and very energetic acidity framing flavors of roasted cherries, Black Mission fig, dark chocolate, violets, and graphite before a long, vibrant finish. Alluring now, but better with some time in the cellar and a perfectly grilled ribeye. Best 2035-2045.
