Our 2017 bottling of the Gap’s Crown Vineyard Pinot noir continues to affirm this vineyard as one of the brightest stars in California. After the 2014’s #35 ranking on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines of 2016, and the 2015’s 95-point score from Robert Parker, the 2017 follows strongly with robust flavors and excellent structure. Much of this wine’s concentration derives from the site’s steep slopes and rocky soils, amplified by fluctuating temperatures and the resulting tiny berries. The wine’s signature dark cherry aroma is enhanced by 10 percent whole cluster fermentation, adding depth and texture for a long complex finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Pinot Noir Gap's Crown Vineyard was made with 10% whole cluster and aged in 50% new French oak. Pale to medium ruby, the nose is slow to unfurl to scents of smoked cranberries, baked rhubarb, pure raspberry and strawberry preserves, candied violets and blackberry pie with spicy and earthy touches. The palate is medium-bodied, silky and intense, with unfurling, spiced flavor layers. It has a fine, grainy frame and seamless freshness, finishing long and layered. "Brawny yet bright in tangy orange peel, cranberry and strawberry, this well-made wine from a well-known and coveted site is impressive in its breadth and complexity. With thirst-quenching acidity it fills the palate with fruit, spice and oak in equal measure." - Virginie Boone, Wine Enthusiast

International Wine Report
"The Gap’s Crown Vineyard is one of the great vineyards of the in the Sonoma Coast AVA, set between 300 and 800 feet, right next to the Sangiacomo VIneyard. This wine opens with a bouquet of white rose, cran-pomegranate and orange zest. The salinity of the wine shines through as bright red cherry candy, guava puree, Mandarin orange rind and cola flavors all marvelously combine on the palate. This marvelous wine shows not only serious range but a beautiful, soft texture. Enjoy this over the next decade or more. Drink 2019-2030." - Dr. Owen Bargreen, International Wine Report
