Rob Sanford
Assistant Winemaker
Rob Sanford started with Sojourn Cellars in July of 2019. Having grown up in Monterey county, wine was on his radar at a young age. He attended California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo and graduated Cum Laude in Wine and Viticulture with a minor in Plant Protection. While being a part of a tasting group, he was fortunate to try a 1983 Heitz Cellar Cabernet Sauvignon, Martha’s Vineyard, and his desire for making the highest quality wine became his focus.
Rob’s wine path started out as the cellar hand/viticulturist at Chesebro Wines in Carmel Valley. He then worked harvests in South Africa’s Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, followed by Rhys Vineyards and Small Vines Wines in California. Having always been interested in Burgundy, Rob finally got the chance to visit in December, only solidifying his love for the world renowned wine region.
When he’s not at the winery, Rob enjoys spending time with his wife Leah and their dog Sky, traveling, making bread, gardening and playing sports with friends. He currently lives in Santa Rosa, CA.
