We previously produced a highly acclaimed single vineyard Pinot noir from Silver Eagle through 2013, and our winemaking team jumped at the opportunity to work with the vineyard again when key blocks became available. It is a first-class coastal vineyard located near Occidental within the West Sonoma Coast. Its cool climate and Sebastopol series rocky clay loam soils naturally control vigor, resulting in small, concentrated berries. The Calera clone forms the foundation of this Pinot noir, with Pommard and a suitcase Vosne-Romanée clone rounding out the blend. Cool coastal breezes and fog work in tandem to limit yields and achieve excellent balance and concentration. In 2006, the late Ulises Valdez, a top Sonoma Coast vineyard manager, planted the vineyard. Mark Aubert helped Ulises develop this site into a world-class vineyard that has become increasingly sought after.
